Hello all,

In 2015, I sustained a spinal cord injury when I hit my neck on a lava rock during a rope swing accident while vacationing on Hawaii’s big island.

When I arrived at Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu I couldn’t really move, and I was paralyzed in the lower part of my body for around 3 months. I started being able to move my toes just a bit after that, then some more lower body functionality started coming back from the bottom on up. I’ve been recovering for over 2 years, and at this point I use a walker and forearm crutches for assistance in getting around.

I’m seeking funding for an Azub Fat trike with electric assist. The Azub Fat trike is the most comfortable of the 3 fat tire trike options on the market. And despite having a very high price tag, it is also the least expensive.

I want a fat tire trike because I need an all-terrain vehicle. The fat tires allow one to traverse more inaccessible areas such as sand and snow. After being confined to a room for two and a half years, I want to get outdoors and enjoy getting exercise and physical therapy, and being in natural settings.

A fat tire trike with electric assist is my ticket to doing that. Electric assist is necessary because I can only pedal slowly on flat ground that is also paved. I’ve found that due to my limited leg strength, I can’t pedal on any sort of uphill incline, or certain terrain types like grass. This means electric assist is vital to ensure that I don’t get stuck when I’m out riding.

Thanks to the generosity of the Kelly Brush Foundation, I have received a grant for part of the cost of the equipment, but I still have more funds I need to raise. Being able to acquire this trike would be a real blessing, so I’m starting this crowdfunding campaign in the hopes that I can complete the fundraiser.
